Mark Goodier to Host BBC Radio 2's 'Pick of the Pops'
Goodier Replaces Late Steve Wright
Longtime Broadcaster Returns to Radio 2
Veteran broadcaster Mark Goodier has been named the new host of BBC Radio 2's iconic 'Pick of the Pops' show. Goodier will take over the helm of the long-running program on Saturday afternoons from July onwards.
Goodier replaces Steve Wright, who hosted 'Pick of the Pops' for decades before his passing in September 2022. During Wright's absence, the show has been hosted by Gary Davies.
With over 40 years of experience in broadcasting, Goodier is well-known to radio listeners across the UK. He previously presented 'The Radio 1 Breakfast Show' and 'The Radio 2 Breakfast Show,' among other popular programs.
Goodier said in a statement: "I'm thrilled to be joining the BBC Radio 2 family and to be at the helm of such an iconic show. 'Pick of the Pops' has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember, and I'm honored to be able to continue the tradition of bringing listeners the best of pop music."
The BBC's Head of Radio 2, Helen Thomas, praised Goodier's appointment, saying: "Mark is a broadcasting legend with a deep passion for music. He has a unique ability to connect with audiences, and I'm confident that he will bring a fresh and exciting energy to 'Pick of the Pops.'"
